about

Visionary producer and label owner James Connolly AKA Dance System makes his Anjunadeep debut with his funk-laden remix of Qrion's ‘Proud’, taken from her just-released album ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever’.

In a reimagining reminiscent of 2000s funk house, Connolly compliments the original hook with a slew of synthesised swirls and swooshes, a catchy bassline, and a thumping drum arrangement. The remix marks another addition to his celebrated back-catalogue as Dance System and L-Vis 1990, which includes collaborations with India Jordan, Hudson Mohawke, A-Trak, Shadow Child, and Hugo Paris. Describing his sound as “tough, funky & fun”, Connolly has released on Mad Decent, Très Cool, and Monkeytown Records, and his own imprint System Records.

’Proud’ is the third single off of Qrion’s debut album. Featuring an elated vocal sample from Deniece Williams’ rendition of The Impression's single ‘I’m So Proud’ on an addictive four-to-the-floor rhythm, ‘Proud' evokes that true hand-in-the-air feeling. The track has been supported by the likes of Pete Tong and Danny Howard at BBC Radio 1 as well as Jason Bentley at KCRW, Triple J, and SiriusXM.

An album built on nostalgia and sentimentality, ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever' pays homage to Qrion’s memories childhood and her dad, and captures the feelings she felt when moving from her hometown of Sapporo to San Francisco to pursue a career in music. Speaking on the album, Qrion exclaims “I connected with my old memories - the feelings of spending time with my Dad, the time I lived with my family in Japan, and the small but important moments of my life from my life in Sapporo.”

‘I Hope It Lasts Forever' is the latest triumph in a career that’s seen Qrion release on Mad Decent, Last Night on Earth, and This Never Happened, and be named on Forbes Japan’s 30 Under 30, adding to notable support from the likes of 88Rising, Clash, Mixmag and Billboard.
